Nous sommes entourés par les rivières et cours d'eau.
The river Elk, which runs through our valley, rises and falls at an alarming rate with each rain fall. We fear that one day it may swirl through the studio. Last spring we witnessed our neighbour’s garden furniture on the opposite bank bobbing up and down towards us after a rescue mission hundreds of yards downstream the recovery of the items was achieved. Despite living and working in the danger area the studio has stood for hundreds of years. The previouse occupants were millers and used a huge water wheel to make the flour. They also baked the bread, these people were in tune with nature and seem to have had a measure the latent potential. Upstream the great water wheel hangs silent on the side of the mill house. The robust Roman bridge was the site of stepping stones. It is from this vantage point that you can idle, while watching the stream cascade and tumble over cataracts. Its fascinating the way water ebbs and flows down over falls and obstacles disappearing into dark pools only to rise as excited frothy forms gathering into little group’s that break and create orderly ques decending over the next fall, and so the process repeats over and over again passing under the bridge moving on slipping out of sight. The bubbles and jetsream create more formations gathering momentum as it meanders on its journey. This vision is the embryo for the Eau range. Each has one of these moments frozen in time, creating ephemeral sculptures
